| NSRI still searching for missing swimmer The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) has resumed a search for a 25-year-old man who went missing while swimming in the surf at Milnerton beach on Sunday afternoon. Milnerton police spokesperson Peter Louw said George Kgaudi, from Joe Slovo village in Milnerton, spent the day at the beach with his girlfriend, their two children and three friends. Kgaudi, originally from Kuruman in the Northern Cape, went out for a swim, but before long experienced difficulty. According to Louw, someone on the beach said she had heard Kgaudi screaming for help and then urged another swimmer to go to his aid. The man tried to swim out to where Kgaudi was, but could not reach him as the currents were too strong. He then swam back to shore, the eyewitness said. The NSRI, Metro rescue services, police divers and members of the navy were on the scene late on Sunday as an intensive rescue operation was mounted. A police helicopter was also deployed. Louw said the search had to be called off on Sunday night because visibility had become poor. |
